Athol Hall Wedding

The original building was constructed in 1850 and was formerly known as the Athol Gardens Hotel. In recent years the restored heritage venue has been renovated to make the most of the wonderful space and world famous views of the harbour.

On the exterior of Athol Hall, there is an old balcony perfect for your wedding guests to engage in chit chat whilst enjoying roaming canapés and champagne. Inside the hall, the exposed beams and high ceilings provide a blank canvas for you to style and set up your reception anyway you wish. There is enough space inside Athol Hall to consider a sit down function, or if that is too formal, then a cocktail arrangement.

As the sun sets and the lights of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House turn on – the views that make Athol Hall popular make themselves evident.

Why I Recommend Athol Hall

The handy wedding ceremony options on site (and close by) are fantastic (photographically), making the most of the beautiful location and views.

The location on the harbour foreshore is perfect for bridal photos, with plenty of great photo opportunities close by. From Athol beach, within Ashton Park, the surrounding national park and Bradleys Head. With everything available on site, it means you can sooner get back to party with your wedding guests.

Athol Hall is the perfect intimate wedding reception setting. Set up your wedding tables so you can easily get around and chat with everyone (but leave enough space for the dance floor). The laid back feel to the hall makes it easy for you to party the night away with your family and friends (and is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day to photograph).

It truly is the perfect setting for an unforgettable and stunning wedding day.

Some Additional Tips

  • With the beautiful lawn out the front of the venue, consider arranging some lawn games for your wedding guests to enjoy. They are great fun and bound to create some funny and priceless memories for everyone. Lawn games are perfect for giving guests something to do between the end of your nuptial ceremony and beginning of reception. As this can often be 2-3 hours, setting up interactive entertainment is highly recommended.
  • The best time of the day for wedding photography is as the sun starts to set. Make sure you both take some time at sunset to enjoy the views and capture some spectacular wedding photos. Given the location of Athol Hall to Athol beach and Bradleys Head – this shouldn’t be a problem.
  • Make sure you factor in some times to mingle with your guests at enjoy those views of Sydney Harbour (perhaps during canapés). It’s all too easy to miss out on this quality time on your own wedding day. One of the biggest regrets newlyweds cite is not spending enough time with their best friends.
  • Wedding planning can be stressful. During your wedding planning if you make a site visit, why not consider packing a picnic and taking a walk through the bush down to Bradleys Head Amphitheatre. It can be a beautiful spot to relax and watch the sun go down.

Similar Wedding Locations You Might Also Want to Consider

Mosman is a popular area in Sydney (and for good reason). Stunning views, proximity to various wedding ceremony options, and the perfect setting – there’s lots to like.

Given Athol Hall’s small capacity, you may also wish to consider nearby reception venues:

  1. Ripples Chowder Bay
  2. Gunners Barracks
  3. Sergeants Mess

A little bit further is also Q Station (North Head, Manly). It also provides unparalleled views of Sydney harbour.
