Rachel & Luke Harden Country Wedding

I remember smiling from ear to ear when Rachel first emailed and told me about the country wedding she and her partner Luke were planning in a little town called Harden.  The plans were to have one giant wedding party in the machine shed of the family farm. The farm where Luke grew up, a place full of family history and memories.

It is very ambitious to take on a DIY country wedding of any scale, let alone a big one that is many hours drive from your home in Sydney. Both Rachel and Luke took this in their stride and certainly pulled out all the stops. The old machine shed was cleared out of years of equipment to make way for the 3 very long tables to fit all of the guests. The shed was totally transformed into a beautiful open space, where friends and family could eat, drink and party the night away. I loved the attention to detail, the styling and how they made the most of the space (I couldn’t count the fairy lights even if I tried). The Canola on the farm was planted earlier in the year, all the while aiming for it to be in full bloom come the weekend of the wedding. It certainly was a spectacular sight to see, with a sea of yellow as far as the eye could see providing an amazing backdrop for the festivities.

We arrived late on the Friday to scout and prepare for the big day, with a private tour of the property from Luke we got to see just how big the working farm actually was. I had a few locations in my mind, but I could have shot around the property for days. On the day itself the boys spent most of the morning getting everything just right, whilst I captured the girls getting ready at another family property nearby (which was also amazing!). We all met up at the church for the ceremony, before bridals in the fields and a dusty arrival to the reception to party with all of the guests. Everyone mingled outside of the shed, enjoying the afternoon as the sun set and the formalities begun. The party continued well into the night, with many heartfelt speeches, live music, dancing and conversations by the fire. It felt intimate, personal and celebrated life and love the way it should be done.

During the evening I setup a shot with the milky way as it set towards the horizon. It combined my love of the stars, the location and a quiet moment between Rachel & Luke. To me, it wrapped up the night and the weekend perfectly. I find it hard to do weddings a justice in words, so I hope the photos truly convey just how great these two are, how much they love their friends, family and the epic wedding that was.

    1. This wedding was out in the Australian country, and the stars out there are amazing. I simply waited for the right chance to head out with the bride and groom during the reception to capture the shot 🙂
